ORDERS CHANGE. YOUR SYSTEMS SHOULD KNOW.

Keep order edits from becoming shipping mistakes.

An address changes after export. An item is removed after picking starts. Anyweb designs the amendment workflow between Shopify and your ERP or WMS so staff can see what changed, what was accepted and what still needs a decision.

Fictional examples. Actual editability depends on Shopify, the ERP/WMS and the fulfillment provider.

01

Map the warehouse’s edit window

Identify the states that matter: imported, released, picking, packed and dispatched. Confirm which changes the warehouse supports at each stage. Address corrections and line removals may have different cutoffs. A locked shipment needs an exception, not a forced overwrite.

  • Agree who owns the final shipment state
  • Document warehouse rejection reasons
02

Track an amendment as its own request

Record the previous value, requested change and source order revision. Send only supported amendments and wait for acknowledgment. Show pending, accepted and rejected separately, so customer support can distinguish a request from a completed warehouse change.

  • Keep the customer and warehouse references linked
  • Prevent the same amendment from applying twice
03

Separate fulfillment from financial changes

A refund does not prove a picked item was removed from a box. Likewise, an item replacement may affect payment, tax or shipping independently of warehouse work. Route consequential differences to the responsible team rather than letting a generic sync invent the business decision.

  • Preserve shipped quantities
  • Reconcile item, payment and shipment records separately
04

Recover without replaying stale instructions

Shopify webhook delivery order is not guaranteed. We compare current records and revision evidence before applying a change, then reconcile records periodically for missed events. If only one system accepted an amendment, staff need a visible recovery path rather than a promise of universal rollback.

  • Test duplicate and late events
  • Review partial failures with an audit trail

BEFORE YOU START

The useful questions.

What is possible depends on your data, existing systems and the way your business works.

What if the warehouse has already picked the order?

Follow its supported hold or amendment process. If changes are blocked, staff need to decide the next step with the warehouse.

Can a failed edit be rolled back automatically?

Sometimes, if both systems support a safe compensating action. Physical work and financial changes may not be reversible through an API.

Which system owns shipment status?

The system with confirmed fulfillment evidence should own that state. We establish the ownership and allowed transitions during discovery.

Will this work with any ERP or WMS?

No universal compatibility is assumed. The specific system must expose supported change, acknowledgment and status workflows.
