Every number has a history
An old part number should lead somewhere useful.
Customers arrive with numbers from worn labels, old invoices and distributor catalogs. Anyweb can build a part-number cross-reference that explains what each identifier means and connects documented relationships to products you actually sell.
Free first look. Scope, connections and costs agreed before a production build.

Fictional codes and relationships for illustration. None is a real equivalence or replacement claim.
01
Keep aliases separate from replacements
An alias is another identifier for the same record. A supersession points from an older item to a later item. An approved alternative has its own compatibility conditions. We model those relationships separately so customers understand the result.
Brand plus part-number identity
Directional replacement history
02
Make messy input searchable
Handle common punctuation, spacing and capitalization differences while preserving meaningful leading zeros and suffixes. Exact manufacturer matches should stay visible above broader suggestions. When the same code belongs to several brands, ask the buyer to choose.
Original and normalized identifiers
Clear disambiguation for duplicate codes
03
Keep the evidence one click away
Store who supplied a relationship, when it was checked and what conditions apply. Staff can approve or retire a reference without rewriting product descriptions. Unverified suggestions belong in a review queue, not a confident replacement badge.

Kit, voltage or revision caveats

Start with your most frustrating searches
Bring a sample of failed searches, an authorized cross-reference file and your Shopify SKU export. We test direct hits, obsolete numbers and collisions before extending the mapping. Search improvements can begin with a curated subset.

Find the original identifier in the correct manufacturer or supplier namespace.
02
Explain
Show whether the relationship is an alias, supersession or approved alternative.

Present the sellable product and its conditions, or route the uncertainty to staff.

These references show related experience. The solution above is a proposed direction, and its exact scope is agreed for your project.
What is possible depends on your data, existing systems and the way your business works.
Can obsolete numbers lead to replacements?
Yes, if you have a documented replacement chain. We retain the old identifier and show any conditions rather than silently redirecting away from important context.
Are cross-referenced products interchangeable?
Not automatically. A shared reference can describe an alias, a replacement with restrictions or a related item. The source must support the relationship displayed.
What if two suppliers use the same number?
Use supplier and manufacturer namespaces, then map each reference to a master record. A bare number should not decide identity when it is ambiguous.
Can my staff update references?
An editing and approval workflow can be included. Record the source, reviewer and effective date so future changes remain explainable.
