FROM API DOCUMENTS TO OPERATIONS

Your supplier has an API. Let’s make it useful.

A distributor’s developer guide is a starting point, not a finished connector. Anyweb assesses the endpoints and permissions available to your account, then designs the product, stock or order workflow your business needs.

Fictional API fields. This is an architectural example, not a claim of compatibility with any named distributor.

Start with the source you have

Choose an example source to see the first feasibility questions.

Agree a stable column map, delivery schedule and SKU key. Validate the file before publishing changes and flag a missing or stale delivery.

01

Review the actual API contract

We inspect authorized documentation, supported environments, authentication requirements and account permissions. A supplier may expose product data but not ordering, or provide different stock to different accounts. The feasibility review names supported workflows and identifies missing endpoints.

  • Start with redacted responses and documentation
  • Confirm access with the supplier’s technical contact
02

Map fields without overwriting your work

Supplier item codes become durable cross-references rather than loose title matches. We define how variants, units, currencies and locations map, then decide which fields the supplier may update. Store-written descriptions and merchandising choices can remain under your team’s control.

  • Separate catalog, cost and stock ownership
  • Treat deleted or discontinued records explicitly
03

Design for pagination and rate limits

The connector needs to read every relevant page, resume interrupted jobs and respect both systems’ limits. Shopify’s GraphQL Admin API uses query-cost limits. Supplier limits may work differently, so scheduling and backoff must fit each side rather than assume unlimited throughput.

  • Checkpoint larger imports
  • Validate successful writes and returned errors
04

Test difficult responses before release

Exercise expired access, missing fields, duplicate notifications and ambiguous timeouts. Before retrying an order submission, determine whether the supplier already accepted it. Keep secrets outside public pages and routine logs, and document access renewal and maintenance responsibilities.

  • Use a supplier sandbox where available
  • Pilot a limited, representative product set

BEFORE YOU START

The useful questions.

What is possible depends on your data, existing systems and the way your business works.

What does my supplier need to provide?

Approved documentation, the permitted account access, sample responses and an operations or technical contact. Test credentials should use a secure handoff.

Do you need Shopify permissions?

Yes, for the specific resources being read or changed. Inventory, product and fulfillment workflows can require different permissions.

Can you work with a proprietary API?

We can assess it when the supplier authorizes access and provides enough documentation or support to test the intended workflow.

Does every API support two-way synchronization?

No. Available endpoints and business rules decide which directions are possible. Read access does not imply permission or capability to submit orders.
