COST CHANGES, HANDLED

Supplier costs changed. Your selling prices should keep up.

Automatically turn approved supplier cost updates into Shopify pricing decisions. Anyweb builds category rules, cost allowances and review thresholds so a routine change can publish while a suspicious increase stops for attention.

Free first look. Scope, connections and costs agreed before a production build.

A CONCRETE FIRST LOOK

Fictional costs, same 25% gross-margin target

Illustrative data, designed to make the workflow easier to discuss.

Test a sample pricing rule

Compare a cost-based gross margin target with a minimum selling price.

Sample proposed selling price$85.71

The higher of cost ÷ (1 − target margin) and the minimum price. A gross margin is different from markup.

Illustrative calculation in the same assumed currency. Excludes taxes, payment fees, returns and overhead unless included in cost. It does not set a live price or promise profitability.
01

Normalize the cost first

Match supplier identifiers to the correct sellable variant, then confirm currency, unit quantity and effective date. A carton cost must not overwrite a single-item cost. Preserve the source record so your team can trace a price decision back to the actual feed.

02

Choose markup or margin deliberately

Markup is measured against cost; gross margin is measured against selling price. In a fictional example, an $80 cost with 25% markup produces a $100 price and 20% gross margin. A 25% gross-margin target instead needs approximately $106.67.

03

Include the costs your rule covers

Agree whether a category rule includes freight allowances, currency conversion, handling or processing estimates. Label the calculation clearly. Shopify cost-per-item reporting does not automatically represent every operating expense, so a displayed product margin should not be presented as business net profit.

04

Publish ordinary changes, isolate surprises

Set percentage and absolute change limits, missing-cost checks and merchant overrides. Store old and proposed values before updating. A rollback should verify that another authorized edit has not occurred since publication, rather than blindly replacing a newer price.

FROM IDEA TO A WORKING PROCESS

A clear path through the work.

Each step makes the dependencies, decisions and handoffs visible.

  1. 01

    Receive the update

Check source, format, timestamp, currency and product match.

  2. 02

    Calculate and compare

Apply your rule, then compare the proposal with current pricing and guardrails.

  3. 03

    Publish or review

Record accepted changes and queue exceptions with their source and reason.

BEFORE YOU START

The useful questions.

What is possible depends on your data, existing systems and the way your business works.

Can prices update automatically?

Yes, for approved cost sources and agreed rules. Automate ordinary changes while requiring review for large moves, missing values or uncertain matches.

Can categories use different margins?

Yes. Bulky items and inexpensive accessories may need different rules. We also define which rule wins when a product matches several categories.

What if a supplier sends a bad price?

Validation can hold zero, negative or unusual costs, retain the last accepted value and alert your team. Stale-data behavior is agreed before activation.

Will this change promotional prices?

Only under approved rules. Sale periods, manual locks and compare-at pricing need explicit handling so a feed refresh does not accidentally undo a campaign.
